Pastor Jose Gutierrez
Before coming to know Christ I struggled with a drinking problem for the period of about 12 months. One day I came to realize that if I didn't stop drinking I would soon be dead. I knew that I was no longer in control of my mind or body anymore but a supernatural power had taken over. I remember looking in the mirror and telling myself "that's not me". The more I examined my reflection in the mirror, the more I realized it was not me. At that moment I decided a change need to take place and soon; but I knew I was too weak to change all on my own. Too weak to overcome this power that was controlling me. It was then that I realized I needed God in my life to help me change my lifestyle. The wrong things that i did, i did not want to do anymore. And the good things that i wanted to do, I did not do. Such was the power over me. We will all come to struggle with this type of situation one time or another. Especially, when we realize we need the most strongest and loving power in our lives, God. The devil will try to discourage us or distract us but we need to have faith and know that God is stronger.
Years before Before my realization; a Bible was given to me by a Seventh Day Adventist couple. A few passages were highlighted in the Bible telling me about: God's love (John 3:16) and the salvation from my sins through Jesus Christ (Romans 8:1). I learned about God and the Bible and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and noticed my life began to change for the better. Another thing I learned was about God's Commandments and the day of rest given by God as a covenant between God and men. I began going to church every Saturday (Sabbath) not thinking that I could possibly lose my job for requesting that day off. Then it happened, I lost my job but in doing so I learned to trust God to provide for me. In the year 1982, I was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church and began my ministry in the Spanish church at Walla Walla Washington working with the youth.
The following year in 1983, I met my beautiful wife Emma and we both began working in different ministries. We now have four children, the oldest is currently serving his country in the Army. The second, is also serving his country in the Navy and has been serving for ten years. He is married and live in Washington with his family. The third, lives in Orting, WA and has graduated with a Masters Degree in Social work and is currently working for the state of Washington. The youngest, is still attending college in Walla Walla, WA.
I was ordained into the Ministry in the year 2003 and was appointed to the Lake of the Woods SDA Church in Frazier Park, CA.
Truly God has Blessed our family and our church here in Frazier Park, CA.
